Learn to See The Whole Horse
The hoof is never the whole story.
Every trim is influenced by movement, conformation, health, nutrition, behaviour, environment and management. To become an exceptional practitioner, you need to understand how these pieces fit together.
The Integrated Equine Podiatry (IEP) Programme has been designed to do exactly that.
Over two and a half years, you’ll develop the knowledge, practical skills and professional judgement needed to support horses with confidence, compassion and integrity.
This isn’t simply about learning how to trim, it’s about learning how to think.
“The hoof tells a story, but it is only one chapter.”

Learning Beyond the Hoof
The IEP Programme combines practical trimming with a broad understanding of the horse as a whole.
Alongside hoof anatomy and trimming techniques, you’ll explore:
- Equine anatomy and physiology
- Behaviour and learning
- Equine nutrition
- Movement and biomechanics
- Rehabilitation
- Horse handling and communication
- Business and professional practice
- Ethics and critical thinking
Because better hoof care comes from understanding the horse, not simply the foot.

What Makes the IEP Programme Different?
At Areion, we don’t believe in teaching rigid formulas or asking students to memorise a single approach.
Instead, we develop practitioners who can assess each horse as an individual, understand the many factors influencing hoof health and make thoughtful, evidence-informed decisions.
Throughout the programme, you’ll be encouraged to question, explore and think critically, because horses rarely read the textbook.
You’ll graduate with far more than technical skills.
You’ll develop the confidence to explain your decisions, communicate professionally with owners, collaborate with other equine professionals and always keep horse welfare at the centre of your practice.

Practical Experience That Builds Confidence
Knowledge is important but experience is essential.
Throughout the programme, you’ll spend extensive time working with horses, developing practical skills in a supportive learning environment.
With intentionally small cohort sizes, every student receives individual guidance, regular feedback and meaningful mentorship throughout their journey.
Our aim isn’t simply for you to complete a course, our aim is for you to become a practitioner who can think independently, adapt confidently and continue developing throughout your career.
What You’ll Leave With
The Integrated Equine Podiatry Programme is designed to transform not only what you know, but how you practise.
By the end of the programme, you’ll leave with:
- Professional confidence to work with horses thoughtfully and safely.
- Practical competence developed through extensive hands-on experience.
- Critical thinking skills to assess each horse as an individual.
- Whole-horse understanding that extends far beyond the hoof.
- Ethical decision-making grounded in welfare, evidence and professional judgement.
- A supportive professional community committed to continual learning and raising standards together.

Your Learning Journey
The programme is delivered over two and a half years through a blend of online learning, practical workshops, independent study and ongoing mentorship.
This structure allows students to build knowledge gradually while applying what they learn in real-world situations, creating confident practitioners rather than simply successful exam candidates. Learning doesn’t end with certification, it becomes part of who you are.
Is the IEP Programme Right for You?
This programme is for people who are curious.
For those who want to understand why, not simply how.
For those who believe that horse welfare deserves thoughtful practitioners who are prepared to keep learning throughout their careers.
If you’re looking for a course that values curiosity over certainty, understanding over formulas and lifelong learning over quick answers, we’d love to hear from you.
Think Deeper. Trim Smarter.
