Every horse is shaped by its movement, health, environment, nutrition, behaviour and management. The hoof tells a story, but it is only one chapter. To care for the hoof well, we must first understand the horse. That belief is at the heart of everything we do.
Our mission is to raise standards within equine hoof care by developing knowledgeable, thoughtful practitioners who are equipped to think critically, remain curious and make decisions that place horse welfare at the centre of their practice.

Why Areion Exists
Areion exists because we believe education should empower people to think, not simply to follow.
The equestrian world is full of opinions, traditions and strongly held beliefs. Yet horses rarely fit neatly into a single system or philosophy. Every horse arrives with a unique history, different conformation, different management and different challenges.
Rather than searching for one “correct” answer, we believe practitioners should develop the knowledge, judgement and confidence to ask better questions.
That means understanding anatomy and physiology alongside behaviour, nutrition, movement, rehabilitation, ethics and communication. It means recognising the horse as a whole, rather than focusing solely on its feet.
Most importantly, it means accepting that learning never truly ends.

Education with Purpose
Our Integrated Equine Podiatry Programme has been designed to develop confident, capable professionals who understand the horse far beyond the hoof.
Over two and a half years, students combine practical trimming experience with in-depth study across multiple disciplines, learning from experienced professionals while developing the confidence to apply their knowledge in real-world situations.
With intentionally small cohort sizes, every student receives individual support, meaningful mentorship and extensive hands-on experience working with horses.
Alongside our flagship professional programme, we also offer continuing education for horse owners and equine professionals through courses such as Essential Equine Nutrition, helping more people understand the many factors that influence lifelong hoof health.
Education shouldn’t stop with certification. It should continue throughout a career.
The Person Behind Areion
I’m Amy Mitchell, Director of Areion Academy and an Equine Podiatrist with a passion for education.
Before working with horses full time, I spent many years in process improvement and project management. That experience taught me to question assumptions, analyse systems and look beyond the obvious skills that continue to shape how I approach hoof care today.
My passion is helping horses and the people who care for them.
Whether I’m trimming a horse, teaching a workshop, mentoring students or recording a podcast, my aim is always the same: to help people see more, understand more and make better decisions for the horses in their care.
I don’t think there’s ever a point where we can say we’ve figured it all out. Horses have a remarkable way of reminding us, again and again, that there is always more to see, more to question and more to understand.
If Areion stands for anything, I hope it’s this: a commitment to lifelong learning, thoughtful practice and always putting the horse first.
